Moshi, TZ – MK family garden update – 26 June 2013
Mr MK is a wonderfully energetic man who has a severely disabled son living with him. His garden was intact and flourishing, it seems to have escaped the worst of the floods. He reported that they eat vegetables from the garden nearly every day.
They are ready to plant the first two of the beds that have been reserved for relay planting. The existing beds could benefit from being maintained a little more regularly. They are not raised as much as the standard design, and the garden is suffering from problems with insects, particularly on the mung beans.
Mr MK says that watering with a watering can is very time consuming and he would like to trial flooding water in the furrows between the beds. He could use some of the saved time for maintaining the shape of the raised beds more often in order to counter any erosive by the water flooding along the furrows.
