Moshi, TZ – Maendeleo School wraps up another good year of serving breakfast – 15 Dec 2019

In 2019, Maendeleo harvested corn and beans which contributed to their daily breakfast feeding. The harvests will carry them into 2020 while they wait for their next corn and bean harvests.

This year, Maendeleo harvested a decent amount of corn despite the impact of the climate conditions, additionally, they harvested beans, though similarly small amounts due to pest and disease challenges. Regardless, the school is looking towards its 2020 harvest and the various committees are planning out their farms with the help of Tupendane.

A daily source of food for students is a welcomed benefit to their required attendance in school. Each week addition of school can play a larger impact down the road for the life of a child. Though for now, the students are just enjoying the daily breakfast they receive due to the hard efforts of their community.

The school and its community, along with Tupendane, are still working out the details on how they can receive higher harvests without increasing the yearly budget.

They hope that working together they’ll be able to ensure sustainable breakfast for years to come.
