Siem Reap, KH – Improving home is first priority for WMT Family – 25 Nov 2016
Weun received a loan from the Peaksneng Garden shop in 2014 to improve the structure of his home using local materials like palm leaves and iron sheeting for the roof. He wanted to improve his home because he grew up in very poor living conditions which he believes attributed to the health and learning issues he experienced early in his life. He is determined to make a better living environment for his three young children by providing a home that is safe, secure and healthy.
The loan gave him a solid foundation to build upon. He doesn’t spend too much money on food each month due to his productive organic vegetable garden, so he has used his savings to make a number of home improvements.
These improvements include; a water well, solar panel and kitchen. The water well provides them with drinking and irrigation water. The solar panel provides enough electricity for two LED lamps in the evenings. The kitchen allows them a place to store and cook food away from their house.
They face challenges with their well in the dry season and sometimes struggle to pump enough water from it for their home and garden useage.
Weun is planning to dig the well deeper so that this is no longer a factor, and also improve the walls in their home to replace the palm leaves with hardwood so that they have better protection from the rain.
They are improving their home so that their children feel secure and comfortable. They also dream of sending their children to school for as long as they want to learn.
