Battambang – Brothers then sister build vegetable gardens – 18 Jan 2013
The garden shop helped Mrs Y start her garden.
Mrs Y is the younger sister of Mehta and Set, who have started gardens of their own. Her husband is a fisherman who suffers from arthritis, so Mrs Y works in the garden. The garden team and Mrs Y planted early early maturing Chinese cabbage and tomato, semi annual crops of long beans, bitter gourd, and onions, plus annual crops of sweet potato and morning glory.
Onions have a number of uses, they repel insects and their leaves can be eaten. Also, a peeled onion can absorb bad germs, and crushed onions placed at the foot of a bed can repel snakes and scorpions!
