Practices

We share practices and funding with rural disadvantaged families in order to help them access water, nourish soil, grow vegetables, generate income, improve homes, and enhance their children’s education.

Bringing water into homes and town centers reduces the time and financial cost of water use. It also reduces health risks by keeping children away from dangerous waterways, reducing neck and back stress from carrying water, and reducing waterborne illness.

Water access solutions follow a variety of designs depending on a community’s current water sources, need, and capacity.

Our local partners help their communities develop the skills, infrastructure, and processes to maintain a sustainable water delivery system.[/expand][expand title=”+ Soil Nourishment” trigclass=”comtitle” targclass=”comtarg” elwraptag=”div” elwrapclass=”comdiv”]Helping families nourish soil so that it will organically feed vegetable plants that will grow to feed families in a nutritious, chemical free, and sustainable manner. Nourishing the soil will help maximize the soil’s productivity while minimizing the work to care for the soil and plants.

This is done by using best practices for building and maintaining raised garden beds with compost and rice hull charcoal, protecting them from extreme weather, and planting them in a way that maintains the soil’s fertility.

Our local partners help impoverished families build and maintain their garden beds by providing  tools, materials, and services that include qualifying, training, building assistance and on-going mentoring for the families.

This work is made possible by donations for the tools, materials and services.[/expand][expand title=”+ Vegetable Growing” trigclass=”comtitle” targclass=”comtarg” elwraptag=”div” elwrapclass=”comdiv”]

Helping families grow vegetables to nourish the family and earn additional income from selling surplus vegetables.  The nourishment strengthens the children’s immune systems and health, enabling them to attend more school, be more attentive in class because they are not distracted by hunger pains, and gain higher grades.

This is done by building Food Always In The Home (FAITH) organic vegetable gardens.

We provide assistance with savings and micro-loans that fund home improvements from kitchen utensils to home additions and new home building that use local building techniques.

Local partners collaborate with families to facilitate savings clubs and qualify the families for home improvement micro-loans.[/expand][expand title=”+ Education Enhancement” trigclass=”comtitle” targclass=”comtarg” elwraptag=”div” elwrapclass=”comdiv”]Helping schools improve the teaching environment by assisting with the provision of clean water, toilets, hand wash basins, kitchens, vegetable gardens and breakfast.

This is accomplished by providing design assistance and donations that fund the building of the facilities and supply of the nutritious breakfast.

Our local partners manage the projects, source the materials and contract with local people to build the facilities and serve the breakfasts.[/expand]
