Utete, TZ – Cow’s stress means no milk – 23 Apr 2014

The Mama’s Group in Kindwitwi is anxiously awaiting the birth of their cow’s calf next month.  After a promising start to their livestock business, they tragically lost their calf and the stress on the mother cow caused her milk production to dip dramatically until eventually she was no longer producing milk. Luckily, the group was saving their early revenue so they have been able to keep up with feeding and maintaining the cow and repaying their loan. To date they have made four repayments totaling 411,600 TZS (USD $257.25). However, there savings are now depleted.1020 Mamas Cow

Luckily, the cow is supposed to give birth again in May, meaning the mother will hopefully begin producing high quantities of milk again. With better luck, more experience, and advice from the local livestock officer, the group is confident they will have much greater success with the business.
