Kilimanjaro, TZ – RTA family garden – 8 Oct 2013
RTA continues to work hard to keep her garden in good order. Every week the paths are swept and the beds are weeded.
This week she started planting her pest repellent border. She put lemon grass around one side of the garden in addition to the lemon grass and aloe that was planted within the garden last week. She hopes to continue adding insect repellant plants to this border.
Hopefully these plants, along with good garden maintenance, will help minimize pest problems for RTA. She hasn’t had any serious problems other than the caterpillars that eat the seedlings.
RTA is also struggling with the same fungus as the MGA’s. However, she has tried a different strategy. Every time she sees a little bit of the fungus on a leaf the removes the leaf all the way from the stem. This is similar to one of Reynaldo Diez’s suggestions, but she is the first person to do this from the start. Hopefully this solution proves effective as everyone who has tried zucchini really enjoys it so far.
