Moshi, TZ – Maendeleo primary school garden – 20 Sep 2013
Once the well was completed, a Better Lives sponsor donated a foot operated water pump so that the teachers and students were able to easily pump water for watering the garden.
The students enjoyed making the garden and decided to plant:
- 2beds Chinese cabbage seedlings
- 2 beds of loshuu (Ethiopian mustard) seedlings
- 2 beds of eggplants seedlings
- 2 beds of cow peas
- 2 beds of okra
- 2 beds empty for relay planting.
The children and teachers will gain the skills to grow vegetables in their organic vegetable garden. Mama Anna, a local parent, will be assisting the teachers and students to maintain the garden. The soil was sandy so it needed a lot of compost, rice hull charcoal, and water at the time of planting.
