Utete, TZ – OPN Family Garden – 11 Dec 2013
The OPN family garden is continuing to produce a good variety of vegetables. Currently, the family is enjoying eating leafy greens, eggplant, green peppers, and cowpeas from their garden. They also have cabbage and tomato plants that are struggling, but that they hope the garden will produce more food now that the rains have started. The family has done such a good job maintaining their garden to this point, so we are excited to see how well things come with the change in weather.
The biggest challenge the OPN family is facing is poor fencing. Gardeners in Kindwitwi use fishing nets to build their fences and provide protection from animals. However, the nets don’t do well in the sun and after a few months begin to breakdown. The KCM team is working with Better Lives to identify a better solution for protecting gardens from animals.
