Ngara, TZ – Kabalenzi Primary School is improving its temporary kitchen in order to better serve daily breakfast – Mar 2026

Kabalenzi Primary School improved student breakfast services by repairing a temporary kitchen using income from its tree project, after the old kitchen collapsed, and disrupted breakfast preparation for 800 students.

Through collaboration between SODAT and the school committee, 20 trees were sold, raising TZS 100,000 / US$ 40. The income was used to construct a temporary kitchen, restoring essential services. During the disruption, cooks had to prepare meals in a small emergency space and serve students in two shifts.

The temporary kitchen has improved efficiency, which has made food preparation faster, more organized, and more effective at allowing all students to receive breakfast at the scheduled time.

SODAT and KBL Primary School are now working together on a long-term solution to build a modern kitchen with healthy air flows, a store and improved cooking facilities, which will ensure sustainable breakfast services to support students’ better health, attendance and academic performance.
