Siem Reap, KH – Teacher Thida guides the RTO community’s children by example – Feb 2026
When we started the church project in Peasneng nearly two decades ago, Teacher Thida was one of the team. As a lay missionary, I launched an agricultural project here in Peasneng to support our local farmers, and Teacher Thida was part of the team as teacher in charge of the St Mary Center for children. When Better Lives and Peaksneng Shop started the Rent-to-Own (RTO) house project, she was one of the families that qualified for a RTO house. Here is an update of her story.

To this day, Teacher Thida remains a steady heart at the St. Mary Center for Children in Peasneng. She is more than just an educator; she is the bridge that connects the community to the world. When student volunteers arrive from the UK, it is Thida who ensures their journey is meaningful, opening the doors of her school and her heart to make sure every activity leaves a lasting seed of change.
Through the rent-to-own housing program, Thida’s life has found its rhythm. The uncertainty of where she might live in the future has been replaced by the quiet strength of a sturdy home. There is a profound peace that comes with four solid walls a feeling of being secure within a community and safe under a roof that holds firm. However, the house is only half of the blessing. woven into her home is the faith Garden, a program that flourishes right in her own backyard.

For Thida, the house and the garden are inseparable. one provides shelter for the body, while the other provides nourishment for the table and the soul. By growing her own food, the burden of daily expenses has lifted, allowing her life to bloom.
Her joy is a story that words can barely catch. It is a deep debt of gratitude—to Better Lives. Because of this vision, Thida isn’t just teaching lessons in a classroom; she is living a life that has been completely transformed.
