Kasaka – Basooka women’s group chairperson gets a big water collection tank at her house – Feb 2026

All 20 families in Kasaka village opened and maintained productive FAITH gardens in their respective homes. They all had a challenge of water collection. Through BetterLives and Wamukisa, the group secured a loan. The main objective of the loan was to help families access money to buy water collection tools which many families did in 2025.

After all loan money was collected at the end of 2025, The group chairperson applied for a bigger loan of 1 million shillings from the group. With approval from Wamukisa, the chairperson received the loan. She managed to purchase and connect a 5000 liter water tank at her house. She used the loan money to purchase the tank, gutters and a plumber who connected the tank.

The distance to the spring where her grandchildren collected water is 700 meters so her grandchildren would spend a lot of time collecting 20 liters of water, she uses 60 litters of water daily so she resorted to buying the water daily, spending 3,000 Ugandan shillings on the 60 liters daily. She bought the water so that her grandchildren could attend school and also maintain both the staple crop garden and the vegetable garden. They attend Kasaka primary school which is 3km away. So after installing a 5000 ltr tank, she will be saving money for repaying the loan. She is also planning to start a piggery project.

She doesn’t have any challenges now, and hopes to start repaying her loan at the end of this month. She’s repaying 500,000 shillings at the end of this month with money received from the sale of coffee she harvested in the last season of 2025. She now dreams of starting a poultry project at the end of this year.
