Kilimanjaro, TZ – Sustainable garden harvests power daily breakfasts service – Jan 2026
At Kisuluni Primary School, the school’s banana garden now plays a key role in providing a reliable breakfast to students.

Once mature, banana plants produce several babies that will produce harvests after the host plant dies, ensuring a steady and sustainable food source that substitutes for corn every school day.
Bananas are prepared together with fresh green vegetables grown in the school garden, and at times combined with beans or potatoes to create a nutritious morning meal. This home-grown breakfast helps students start the day focused, energized, and ready to learn.
This initiative is led by the student club in partnership with Lishe Bora, combining practical agricultural learning with daily nutrition. Beyond feeding students, the program teaches self-reliance, healthy eating, and sustainable farming practices.

Through this approach, the school is strengthening attendance, improving student well-being, and demonstrating how school-based agriculture can directly support education growth’s impact on children’s future lives.
