Utete, TZ – Water sytem repair saves Lugongwe community school lives – Nov 2025

KCM in collaboration with Better Lives has assisted Lugongwe Secondary School to solve a critical water challenge that had stopped water from reaching the school’s storage tank. By repairing the water system, they have restored reliable access to water for the school’s breakfast garden and sanitation needs.

This repair has ended the daily struggle of students walking one kilometer to the Rufiji River to fetch water, a risky journey due to the threat from crocodiles in the river. The water is now available on campus, students are safer, healthier, and have more time for their studies.

The revived breakfast garden now produces enough vegetables for school meals, improving student attendance and academic performance. The student garden club also earns income by selling surplus harvests to teachers and nearby families, helping pay garden input bills and buy school supplies.

KCM and Lugongwe School believe that everyone deserves access to Water, Health, Income and a Home, on their paths to sustainable living.
