Moshe, TZ – When the floods came, unity grew at Mwangaria Primary School – Nov 2025
The Mwangaria village community in Kahe has faced hardship for many years due to its natural location, which suffers from recurring floods. These floods have deepened poverty among families, making life difficult for the children and teachers of Mwangaria Primary School. To address this challenge, Tupendane partnered with the school to launch the Grow-Your-Own-Breakfast (GOB) Program, aimed at helping children access nutritious meals and improve their well-being.

Last year, Tupendane, together with partners Better Lives and True Adventure, strengthened support for the school by organizing a visit from Haileybury School (UK). The visiting team volunteered their time to work on the school garden, boosting the GOB program’s success. This joint effort has raised the spirits of both children and teachers. Despite lacking a cook and a proper kitchen, the children have gone above and beyond by helping prepare meals. Their teacher, Madam Mary, has even volunteered as a temporary cook after class hours to ensure the children eat every school day.
The joy on the children’s faces as they enjoy their breakfast is clear. We believe this is key to their health, happiness, and academic performance. However, the school still faces critical challenges to improve the GOB program. The school needs a dedicated cook, healthy kitchen, garden fence to protect the crops, and storage room for hygienic food preservation.

Madam Mary remains hopeful that, with continued partnership and support, the school can overcome these challenges and improve the sustainability of the GOB program for the children of Mwangaria Primary School. Special thanks go out to Better Lives, True Adventure and Haileybury School (UK), and the Tupendane team for their incredible work so far.
