Utete, TZ – Chalfont Community College students assist community’s families, school, and children – Aug 2025

In July 2025, Chalfont Community College from the UK partnered with KCM through Better Lives to assist families and children in Kindwitwi, Tanzania to create lasting change to lives. During the four days visit, Chalfont students in collaboration with local volunteer families, school clubs, and the KCM team, shared knowledge, culture, and skills. This collaboration brought to life several impactful projects aimed at sustainability, health and academic growth to a child.


The installation of a 5000L water tank to LGN School, supports the “Grow-Own-Breakfast” (GOB) program enabling 16 organic garden beds and 14 banana trees to thrive. A month later, the LGN students and teachers harvested their first garden, providing nutritious, sustainable breakfasts at school.

This enhanced the School’s Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (SWASH) program for 250 LGN schools students and also a nearby primary school with over 300 students and 10 teachers, who now have easier access to water.


Chalfont students had joy painting murals at the FRRTL kindergarten and supported the community by trenching water lines 50m and 30m long to connect Latifa and Saidi homes with clean water.


In the community garden, they built 4 compost piles and made 15L of organic fertilizer sprays and boosters, laying the groundwork for future growth. Donations of school supplies and materials for reusable sanitary pad production were provided, supporting girls’ attendance and overall family well-being


The KCM team mentoring thrice a week LGN gardening clubs for best practice to ensure it thrive for a lifecycle’s harvest. This program wakes up the schools and parents to use available resources to grow sesame and cashew commercialy in order to pay for breakfast running costs and save to build a permanent kitchen to replace thetemporary one.
