Kikondo, UG – FAITH gardening family invests to improve nutrition and income – June 2025
MVP family, one of the most recent to apply for Wamukisa’s assistance to develop a FAITH garden in Kikondo, has improved their members’ lives quickly. As the first rain season is ending, the mother is harvesting spinach for the family to eat and sell.
The MVP family land is a 100 ft. by 100 ft. plot. After mentoring from Wamukisa, they realized how much they were spending on children’s health treatment due to poor nutrition. Their children were frequently treated for diseases related to bad feeding like anemia, fever, and flu. Now with improved nutrition MVP children no longer fall sick as often, helping them improve their school attendance and performance. Four of the five children attend Kikondo Primary School and Mama Sarah teaches the youngest at her Benam infant school.

Family income also has benefited, it is now 20,000 shillings (about $5.70) every week from vegetable sales to their neighbors. The family saves the income in the Zinabala-Kigasa VICOBA. So far this year they have saved 140,000 shillings. They lack space to expand to commercial vegetable growing, after gaining the experience of growing organic vegetables. Practices to produce higher yields from the size garden they already have may assist.
The family also dreams of starting a poultry project using savings and a loan from the VICOBA. They realize that a poultry project doesn’t require a large space to operate. For now they enjoy operating and maintaining a FAITH garden.
