Utete, TZ – OM hopes that new development in Kindwitwi area will increase demand for his egg and chicken meat business – Feb 2023

The New ward office, Secondary school and Vocation training center will be located in OM’s village, and OM hopes this will add value to his chicken business due to the increase in population and food demand.

OM believes this development brings business opportunities for the families and the community because the availability of the social services, which will improve people’s lives, has started making more families moving to Kindwitwi as a quick developing village near to the town of Utete.

OM has committed to continuing paying for the chicken banda loan using other resources’ income, so he can own the banda and produce meat and eggs for his family business. The family decided the way-forward is to pay for his poultry banda loan for his family benefits because of forecasting more sales in 2024 when the new boarding and day schools are launched.

This incerease in demand is important because after seeing KCM and Omari’s long time experience with the chicken banada of keeping and selling local meat chicken, many families have copied and invested in the same business in his village. This has made the market difficult because the increased supply it has reduced the price in the local market. Moreover, the middle buyers from big cities under-pay a farmer 7,000 TZS as the lowest price for buying a hen or rooster due to the distance and costs to access the selling market. Buyers doubled prices even more when selling in the commercial city of Dar es Salaam where there is a higher demand for food due to its population density of over 6 million people.

KCM assisted OM with local marketing research and access to nearby markets of Ikwiriri and Kibiti. Accessing these markets is costly, because of paying Dickson for chicken delivery because the buses refuse to transport them. If he does not sell all chicken by the end of the market, then this will require travel back home or rent a room costs for the chicken and personal stay plus feed and food costs.
