Siem Reap, KH – SCP saves money from garden to build pig pen – 24 Jun 2016

The SCP family saved enough money by selling vegetables from their vegetable garden to build a small pig pen and start fattening pigs. He said that without the extra money he earned from his garden; building a pig pen would have been much more difficult.

SCP lives with his wife, two year old son and seven year old niece in Peaksneng village. Last year, SCP went to Thailand to find consistent work at a factory on the border with Cambodia. He was able to send money back each week to support his family and his wife did her part by tending their vegetable garden and raising chickens and ducks to sell.

He recently came back to Cambodia because living apart from his family was too difficult. He has invested his time in his garden and selling all the chickens and ducks they had left in order to build a pig pen. SCP sees pig raising as an important step for his family’s income generation plans.

He dreams of growing his livestock business to make enough money to build a new home and send his son to university.
