Battambang, KH – Productive Garden pays for school fees – 30 June 2017

Chom Chern childrenCC and his wife work very hard to support their five grand-children while their parents are away working in Thailand.  6 year old Cheany, 7 year old Chivmey and 10 year old Manich are in school, and are all performing above average in their classes.

CC said he does not have enough money for extra tuition time for his grand-children, but they are still performing well because he is feeding them nutritious food from the family vegetable garden and using some income from the garden to buy additional food items and pay for school materials.

CC started his garden with the assistance of the Healthy Life Reinforcement garden shop, and has been actively caring for it since then. It is always productive because he enjoys working in it and loves to visit it.

He has just harvested $12 worth of lettuce and morning glory. He harvested lettuce from 2 beds getting 20 kg from each, and sold the 40Kg to villagers for US$ 0.20 per kg. He harvested 4 beds of morning glory getting 10 Kg per bed, and sold the 40 Kg for US$ 0.10 per kg.

ChCC has been dealing with a lack of water during the recent dry season, and is very concerned because of the unpredictable weather and irregular rainfall. He is requesting assistance from the shop with a supply of some seedlings and compost because the income he receives from the vegetable garden is not enough to pay for all that he needs.

His dream is to build a good home and give his children a good education.
