Mt Kilimanjaro, TZ – Lishe Bora takes important step towards a dream and a local economic engine – 17 Oct 2016

Lishe Bora has purchased 4.5 acres of scenic farmland in Mkyashi, on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The land purchase is an important step towards a dream that Lishe Bora and the community have had for years: building a demonstration farm and eco-lodge to serve backpackers, students, hikers, and other people looking for an authentic Kilimanjaro experience.

“Why should people come so close to us and never even pass through this village?” asked one former local councilwoman, “People should be staying with us, buying our tomatoes and our coffee and our livestock. We have been so close to the national park for so long without feeling a real benefit.”

Lishe Bora manager Mary Shayo worked hard to piece together the land. Four families sold pieces of their farms. They all expressed excitement at staying close to what they hope will become an economic engine for the community.
