Kilimanjaro TZ – Mother always looking for next business opportunity – 15 Jan 2016

LISHE TERESIA (2)_editedThe TSM family is setting an example for how a small, consistent, daily income can enable a family to improve their productive assets. The family’s 12-bed organic vegetable garden now has 16 beds and has provided income for them to improve their retail and butcher businesses.

The family started their organic vegetable garden with Lishe Bora Garden Shop in 2014. The mother of the family is interested in business and her goal was to earn and save money with her garden so she could invest in other businesses. She started by feeding her family half a kilogram per day of vegetables from the garden. As the garden became more productive she was able to sell between 2,000 and 10,000 TZS (US $0.95 to US $4.76) per week of vegetables. She saved this money until she had enough to start a small store selling cooking oil, sugar, salt, rice, and other staple items. Within a year she had taken the profits from her small store as well as money from her garden and rented space to start a butcher shop selling pig and goat meat. She is really looking forward to the next travel group that visits Lishe Bora because she hopes they will want some goat for dinner!
