Battambang, KH – Family works hard in the garden – 3 Apr 2014

HR is a poor lady who came to the shop team to ask about receiving the blessing of the Food Always In The Home (FAITH) garden. Subsequently Salee the shop manager went to meet her and her family.

It was in the morning around 7 AM when Salee approached her home, he noticed a boy eating morning rice with a bar of salt. This sight touched Salee’s heart, and just then the family came to welcome him very warmly.

HR has four children, two of whom are in school. Salee thought that the family looked very poor. They told him that the father works as a building laborer, and his wife HR sells some vegetables that they pick from a rice field when rice is not growing.

Salee introduced the garden and the organic growing techniques to them, telling them about the benefits of growing safe, healthy and tasty organic food. Benefits that included reducing the expense of buying food and giving them additional income from selling surplus vegetables. They looked so bright and happy to hear this, they were obviously receiving the news as a big piece of good luck!

The garden has now started to grow well, and HR has worked very hard to make it bloom and grow so very well. The garden looks very green and productive. Two garden pictures

HR has harvested the salad and morning glory and has sold some to the vegetable broker. She sold 20kg of morning glory for US$ 0.50 per kg and 15kg of salad for US$ 0.25 per kg. She used most of the almost US$14 for buying education materials for their children.B. Hourn Ry

Salee asked HR “what does the garden contribute to their life?”  HR responded that “their children have enough vegetable to eat. They get more income from which they use to support the children learning and some is used for daily consuming”.  She also said that her family would like to say thank you and are very grateful.
